Bids in for ICT Centre of Excellence.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- The deadline for submissions to host the proposed Information & Communications Technology Centre of Excellence has closed. The centre is to be a stand-alone entity, based on a central host site and "distributed nodes". The Australian Government has allocated $A129.5m for the project, which is likely to engage up to 400 employees. In Victoria, the Minister of State and Regional Development, John Brumby, says Melbourne is the preferred site for one of the bidders, the Federation Consortium. This group comprises Telstra Corporation, Ericsson Australia, CSIRO, Distributed Systems Technology Centre and several universities, including Monash University, University of New South Wales and University of Technology Sydney....
