Lockheed Martin wins JSF prize.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- In October 2001, Lockheed Martin won the $US18.9 billion contract to build the "Joint Strike Fighter" (JSF) aircraft. The company will be partnered by Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems in the project. The contract is for the system development and demonstration part of the aircraft program, ahead of a larger full-production contract. The armed forces of the US and Great Britain will take major orders for the JSF aircraft, while a number of other nations have signed on as partners for the project. The propulsion system and engine system technologies will be provided by Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce, the former securing a $US4 billion contract for engine development.
