ACT passes on US ad campaign.
Australasian Business Intelligence, January, 2002
Jan 15, 2002 (The Canberra Times
ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) will not participate in an Australian tourism advertisement campaign in the US. Australian Tourism Minister Joe Hockey said this was a critical time to advertise in the US, as there are signs that people are ready to travel overseas again, after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. Mark Jensen from Canberra Tourism & Events Corporation (CTEC), in the ACT, said the campaign was too expensive. CTEC currently receives $A22 million in annual funding from the ACT Government, with $A8 million committed to the Floriade flower show, the Subaru Rally of Canberra, and the Canberra 400 car race. ACT Tourism Minister Ted Quinlan is to review funding arrangements.
