ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Labor Party (ALP) believes that the Federal Government has failed to help rural constituents. In terms of the petrol price, the ALP's Mark Latham has reported that in late December 2001 petrol prices in New South Wales (NSW) places such as Albury, Coffs Harbour, Orange and Singleton were regularly over $A0.10 higher than in Sydney itself. On 26 December 2001 the average price of BP, Caltex, Mobil and Shell stations was $A0.779 in Sydney, versus the high $A0.80s for the aforementioned regional areas of NSW. An inquiry into petrol prices is due to report on city and rural differences in March 2002.
