ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Seven television network has attracted major sponsors to its broadcast of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Sponsors including Westpac Banking Corporation, car makers, Subaru and Lexus, retailer Harvey Norman and insurance company NRMA Insurance, have been won by the station for the event which commences in the US on 9 February 2002. Advertising packages are thought to have cost sponsors more than $A2m each, compared with the $A1.9m for the 1998 Winter Olympics. The Seven Network has secured these sponsors in a competitive market as its rivals, Nine Network and Ten, are seeking sponsors for coverage of Australian Football League games in season 2002 at an assumed asking price of more than $A3m.
