No Christmas, please, we're the Australian Tax Office.

Australasian Business Intelligence, February, 2002

ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Taxation Office has become the Ebenezer Scrooge of Christmas. In a move both ridiculous and offensive it has decided to ban the word "Christmas" from its annual telephone Christmas message. The tax office closes between 25 December and 1 January and in 2001, answered calls with a cheerful message wishing people a "Happy Christmas". Civil servants in Canberra have decided, however, that this may upset Christians. When questioned, a tax office representative said the "Christian-centric" term could be considered offensive.
