Greens lashed over GE snipe.
Australasian Business Intelligence, February, 2002
Feb 11, 2002 (The Mercury
ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Tasmanian Government has criticised the Tasmanian Greens for claiming it has deceived the public over its genetic engineering (GE) policy. Greens parliamentarian Peg Putt suggested to a forum that the State Government has no long-term commitment to the state being "GE-free". Putt suggested that the current moratorium on GE crops is an interim measure. Tasmanian Primary Industry Minister, David Llewellyn, noted that Putt was a member of the Joint House Select Committee on Gene Technology that agreed to the moratorium. There have been no new GE trials in the state, Llewellyn said.
