ABIX via COMTEX) -- John Howard, the Australian Prime Minister, opened a conference in Adelaide on 27 February 2002. Howard told delegates at the World Congress on Information Technology (IT) that Australia will establish a high-profile advisor group to examine issues surrounding high-speed broadband communications. He also spoke of the ICT Framework for the Future program, which will map out IT developments for the next five to ten years. The CEO of the Australian Internet Industry Association, Rob Durie, viewed the announcement as a promising moment for the IT sector. Howard also mentioned the $A129.5 million ICT Centre of Excellence.
