ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Tesna syndicate was unable to meet the 28 February 2002 deadline set by Ansett's administrator for its sale. In spite of months of negotiations, several agreements critical to Tesna's purchase of the failed Australian airline had not been completed by 26 February. Two major factors thwarted the bid by Melbourne businessmen Lindsay Fox and Solomon Lew to acquire Ansett. The Australian Government was indifferent to Ansett's demise, after Fox and Lew gave the Australian Labor Party pre-2001 election support. Qantas's CEO, Geoff Dixon, adopted a hard-line business attitude to the possibility of a third, destabilising airline presence in the Australian market.
