ABIX via COMTEX) -- The US Congress has scrapped a proposed $US100 billion economic stimulus package. The measures have been the subject of debate since October 2001. Majority Leader in the Senate, Tom Daschle, announced on 5 February 2002 that he would "pull" the Bill after negotiations reached a stalemate. The Republican Party had refused to support the Bill unless it included substantial personal and business tax cuts. The Democratic Party, however, was only prepared to accept much smaller corporate tax incentives. The chairman of the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, said earlier that the package was unnecessary.
