ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers (Icann) is in serious trouble. The organisation is responsible for co-ordinating the Internet's electronic mail address system. There have been calls in March 2002 for Icann to be dumped. At the same time, a board member is suing the organisation, and its CEO has urged radical reforms. The essential problem lies with the issues of how to give the average Internet user a voice in the process. An election held in 2000 attracted only 3,449 votes in North America. CEO, Stuart Lynn, is now calling for more government participation and the elimination of trustees nominated by users.
