Deloitte eyes its rival.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- KPMG Australia has announced its withdrawal from discussions on a proposed merger with Andersen Australia. Ernst & Young and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu remain the embattled consultancy's prospective merger partners. KPMG's decision is believed to have been made because of conflicts of interest with Andersen in relation to the collapse of HIH Insurance. If Deloitte merged with Andersen it would become the second largest Australian accounting firm after PricewaterhouseCoopers.
