ABIX via COMTEX) -- There is great potential for electronic commerce via the medium of mobile telephones. In France, mobile telephones are already incorporating slots for electronic payments, according to a research paper released by the European Commission's European Payment Systems Observatory. However, current wireless application protocol (WAP) technology is too slow to allow extensive Internet commerce. Mark Looi, deputy director of the Queensland University of Technology's Information Security Research Centre, says that the market penetration of mobile telephones makes them an attractive option for wireless payments.
