Cheap flights already harder to get, travel watchdog warns.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- InfoChoice, an Australian consumer group, has found that Qantas's discounted Internet airfares increased by 20 per cent just days after Ansett's demise. In its daily monitoring of the cheapest Internet airfares, InfoChoice discovered that Qantas had not only hiked up prices for certain routes, but it had also reduced its services for the March to April 2002 period. However, a spokesman for Qantas was adamant that InfoChoice's findings were incorrect, saying the decline in discount airfares was due to greater pre-Easter demand. Since the sale of Ansett was rejected in late February 2002, Qantas has become the only domestic airline to offer direct services from Sydney to Perth and Brisbane to Perth.
