Hackers sneak through open doors.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Computer hackers have shifted their focus from firewalls to unprotected applications. Director of security strategies at Hurwitz Group, Pete Lindstrom, says that applications are now perceived to be an easier target than firewalls, which generally enjoy improved protection nowadays. Hackers have been able to access applications such as shopping carts, supply-chain information and price lists. Figures from SecurityFocus corroborate Lindstrom's assertion: 64 of the 10 million breaches of security over a seven-day period in February 2002 related to application port 64.
