Upstart Teoma challenges Google with refined searches.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- In late April 2002, some sections of the media are suggesting new search engine, Teoma.com, could replace Google. Teoma, which means "expert" in gaelic, was devised by Apostolos Gerasoulis, from Rutgers University. In 2001 the search engine was purchased by Ask Jeeves for $US4.4 million. Teoma can produce three different kinds of response to each query, showing relevant Internet pages, providing links to the publications of experts and offering to narrow the search. Steve Burkowitz, of Ask Jeeves Web Properties, says that Teoma has "raised the bar" in terms of producing relevant searches.
