ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's free-to-air television stations may be able to broadcast extra channels. The Australian Government is considering approving the arrangement in order to overcome the competition problems associated with Foxtel's proposed pay television alliance with SingTel Optus. The alliance still has to secure the approval of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. The Seven Network is a keen supporter of the multichanelling plan, but the Nine Network and the Ten Network are lobbying the government to block it.
