Peak small business body hits "heavy" Fels.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- A peak employer body in Australia has voted against extending the powers of the competition watchdog. In May 2002, this decision was taken by the general council of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). This group represents big and small business, with over 300,000 of the latter firms represented. The ACCI does not want any extra power given to the ACCC. In the past, small businesses have sought protection from bigger businesses, which can use their market dominance to drive out smaller rivals. Allan Fels, chairman of the ACCC, wants tougher powers to stop collusion, anti-competitive behaviour and abuse of market power. A review of the Trade Practices Act will take place by November 2002....
