Lion Nathan's net rose 12% in 1st half.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Lion Nathan recorded an interim net profit of $A100.1m for 2001-2002. The result represents an increase of 12 for the Australian-based brewing and wine group. Foster's Group is the major rival of Lion Nathan on the Australian market. Around a 46 interest in Lion Nathan is held by Kirin Brewery in Japan. Earnings of $A8m are predicted for Lion Nathan for 2001-2002 as a whole. A 65 decrease in earnings to $A3.4m was recorded by the wine division in the first six months of the year. A 12 increase in pretax profit to $A156.5m was recorded for the six months. Group sales increased by 6.3 to $A845.4m.
