Clayton Utz tipped to lose state work.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Despite a strong reputation for government work, Clayton Utz has not been selected to do legal work for the Victorian government. The estimated $A35 million worth of state government work will be divided between ten firms, which the Attorney General, Rob Hulls, will announce on 26 June 2002. Clayton Utz is one of Australia's largest law firms but has been feeling the pinch since it was found to have shredded documents relating to a case against its client, British American Tobacco. The cigarette company lost the smoking-related damages case earlier in 2002. Legal ombudsmen from New South Wales and Victoria are investigating Clayton Utz over the destruction of the documents, but the law firm maintains that it did not act improperly.
