ABIX via COMTEX) -- Air New Zealand (Air NZ) is being attacked by travel agents for its plans to cut the base commission for the NZ market from October 2002. The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) CEO, Mike Hatton, said AFTA could not support a carrier that would not pay agents the base commission for helping the airline sell tickets. AFTA has cancelled Air NZ as a sponsor for its upcoming annual conference in July 2002. Flight Centre has threatened to direct its clients to rival airlines. The Asia Pacific Alliance said if Air NZ goes through with its plan, the alliance will ask its 16,000 travel agent members to reconsider selling the tickets of the airline.
