TransACT's broadband take-up rate eight times the Australian average.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Canberra residents are by enthusiastic subscribers to the broadband Internet service provided by communications company, TransACT. While the average subscription rate in Australia to such services is just two per cent, in the Australian Capital Territory the figure is 17 per cent. Internet issues were the subject of a Sydney forum held by the Internet Society of Australia. The society's Australian president, Tony Hill, said broadband Internet will change many aspects of everyday life, because of the immediacy and ease of access to information. Among issues of major concern were privacy implications, he said.
