Shuttle may lead to cheap air fares.

Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2002

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Qantas is to begin a shuttle service between Western Australia and the eastern States from November 2002. Flights, using 300-seat Airbus A330s, due to be delivered in October, will depart every two to three hours. Qantas CEO, Geoff Dixon, says firm start-up dates have not yet been finalised, and there is still a possibility that the service may start before November using Boeing 767-300s. Dixon says Australia cannot support more than two airlines, and that in the nine months prior to Ansett's collapse, Qantas, Ansett, Impulse Airlines and Virgin Blue lost $A500m. He says Qantas's stability is very important to Australia and sustainability is essential to the national industry.
