Chisholm v Fels.
Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2002
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Legendary Australian media executive, Sam Chisholm, has had dealings with the competition regulator, Allan Fels, before. Known for his ability to negotiate deals behind the scene, Chisholm was called back to help News Corporation's proposed merger with Australis Media in 1996. On 21 June 2002, Fels, who chairs the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, announced that the competition watchdog had rejected the pay television alliance proposed between Foxtel, which Chisholm heads, and Singtel Optus. This means Chisholm will again be working privately to develop the changes necessary to win the approval of Fels. The alliance partners are due to re-present the proposal early in July.
