Tax office to join new national anti-crime body.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Michael Carmody, Australia's Tax Commissioner, will be on the board of the Australian Crime Commission (ACC). The ACC will replace the National Crime Authority, and its main focus will be to combat offences such as taxation fraud, money laundering and white-collar crime. The Australian Government is keen to have the Australian Taxation Office participate in ACC investigations. Chris Ellison, the Justice Minister, says that tax fraud is becoming a major problem in Australia.
