Phones get in the picture.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- CommunicAsia was held in Singapore in the week ending 21 June 2002. Mobile phone makers like Nokia and Sony Ericsson had on display their latest models. Mobile phone makers are hoping to combine the hugely popular short message service (SMS) technology with picture and sound capability in what has been dubbed multimedia messaging (MMS). Jan Wareby, the executive vice-president of Sony Ericsson, says it is hoped that MMS will "stimulate new user habits". He is hopeful that consumers will be willing to pay three or four times the cost of an SMS message to send MMS messages. The MMS technology comes at a time when the uptake of mobile phones is expected to level out over the next five years.
