EU bans spam.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's Federal Privacy Act is soon to embrace the Internet industry's ban on unsolicited commercial e-mails. This development follows a decision by the European Parliament to ban these e-mails, but to agree to an opt-in policy requiring consent before they can be sent. The Australian Internet Industry Association has adopted the same policy and will be seeking approval for it soon from the Privacy Commissioner. The association has warned that laws in only one country or region would be an insufficient deterrent, however.
