Ernst coy on possible staff cuts.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian accounting firm, Ernst & Young, is about to make its first round of staff cuts following its merger with Andersen. Ernst & Young management are believed to be looking at options to reduce the number of administrative and support staff in areas such as computing, administration and corporate finance and tax. Following the merger of the two firms in May 2002, the combined group has a total of around 4,200 staff and 300 partners, of which 2,000 staff and 95 partners were brought across from Andersen. On 26 June, Ernst & Young management were not prepared to comment on speculation of large-scale redundancies.
