ABIX via COMTEX) -- There are 39 members in the Australian chapter of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA). The Australian member represent 10 of the worldwide membership. The AIMA initiative aims to improve investor education about absolute return fund products, foster transparency and promote appropriate due diligence. The initiative defines alternative investments as hedge funds, managed futures funds and currency funds. Worldwide, virtually all major financial institutions and fund management groups have joined AIMA. The institutionalisation of the industry can be seen in the alternative investment capabilities of such major banks as UBS Warburg, HSBC Holdings, Deutsche Bank and Citigroup.
