ABIX via COMTEX) -- Born in Lebanon in 1975, Ahmad Ali Rida may be Australia's greatest ever swindler. In 1987, he arrived in Australia and in 1993 was jailed on his first fraud conviction. He was jailed several more times, before enrolling in a law course at Macquarie University in 1999, which allowed him to join the New South Wales (NSW) Law Society. He also joined the Australian Medical Association, claiming to be enrolled at the University of NSW. Dressed in a naval officer's uniform, he opened accounts with the Defence Force Credit Union and Australian Defence Credit Union and spent money on the debit cards he was issued.
