Canberra's new $15m hangar ready.

Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2002

ABIX via COMTEX) -- A new aircraft maintenance facility at Canberra Airport is completed and ready for use. The maintenance hangar has the capacity to house Boeing 737s and 767s. However, a decision by Qantas Airways on how best to use the facility has not yet been made. Fabrication of the $A6.5m facility is with post-tension steel trusses and steel roof purlins that allow clear spans of 80 metres by 50 metres. At 82 metres the trusses are the longest used in any Australian building. Much of the work was completed at ground level before placement. National Engineering completed the design of the building and Bigspace Technologies undertook the construction.
