Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2002

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Partners in the Australian pay television company, Foxtel, are seeking a strategic alliance with Singtel Optus. News Corporation, Publishing & Broadcasting and Telstra have promised to spend more than $A500m to convert their network to digital in the second half of 2003 and to open up their network to competitors such as Neighbourhood Cable and TransACT. The move is an attempt to appease the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, which is opposed to the alliance and is expected to scrutinise the plan in mid-July 2002.
