ABIX via COMTEX) -- NDS Group is considering making a bid for the French company, Canal Plus Technologies. NDS is the technology arm of News Corporation, and Canal Plus is a rival that brought a $A1.8 billion lawsuit against NDS in February 2002. News Corporation appears to be widening its European strategy, given it is already negotiating to buy Italian pay-TV outfit Telepiu from Canal Plus's parent company, Vivendi. The deal, announced on 7 June 2002, was conditional on Canal Plus dropping its legal action. The NDS chairman, Abe Peled, has confirmed that his company is interested in the sale of Canal Plus, saying it is just a matter of price. He said NDS's offer would be well below Stg500m.
