ABIX via COMTEX) -- British American Tobacco (BAT) has revealed the Western Australian (WA) Australian Labor Party lobbied the company for campaign funds. John Galligan, BAT's corporate affairs director, said the company had received a letter from the party with a request for a campaign donation in the lead-up to the 2001 WA election. Galligan said the company agreed to make the donation following a change in company policy that allowed for political donations. WA Premier Geoff Gallop said he was not involved in the party's fund raising activities. Meanwhile, WA Opposition Leader Colin Barnett has denied a donation from tobacco company Philip Morris had affected the Liberal Party of WA's policy decisions.
