Suitors line up for CitiPower.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Four bidders are vying to buy the Melbourne electricity retailer CitiPower as the deadline for offers passed on 18 July 2002. One bidder is Singapore Power, a consortium composed of TXU Australia, Macquarie Bank and Abbey National. Also in the hunt is a consortium of United Energy and AMP. The other two bidders are Origin Energy and Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings. CitiPower's owner, American Electric Power, appointed ABN Amro Australia in February 2002 to advise it on sale options. A decision on the sale could be made within a week.
