ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian company, Mayne Group, will fight a European Patent Office ruling that removes a patent on the anti-cancer drug, paclitaxel. The Office states that as paclitaxel was discovered by the US National Cancer Institute, a public body, Mayne has no right to the patent. Mayne held the patent through its marketing partner, Napro Biotherapeutics. However, a Mayne spokesman said the patent decision will not affect the company's planned European market launch of paclitaxel in 2003. In addition, the spokesman said there would be no effect on the company's financial year results in 2002-2003.
