Accountant threaten Tax Office with paper war.
Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2002
Aug 13, 2002 (The Age
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia's accountants are threatening to lodge tax returns by mail instead of online unless the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) fixes services. The main complaints put forward by the Institute of Chartered Accountant in Australia (ICAA) were long hold times for telephone inquiries, inconsistent or incorrect advice, and too much paperwork. The ICAA has warned the ATO that it has 10 weeks from 13 August 2002 to improve, or receive large amounts of paper forms to process. Australia's Revenue Minister, Helen Coonan, said the complaints were dated, as most of the problems have been fixed.
