Accountants set to take on ATO.
Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2002
Aug 13, 2002 (The Australian Financial Review
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian chartered accountants are fed up with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). On 13 August 2002, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia threatened that its members would lodge tax returns on paper, creating more work, if the ATO's services to tax agents did not improve within 10 weeks. The Institute's CEO, Stephen Harrison, said that 87.5 of accountants claimed that the ATO had failed to implement tax reforms successfully. The Acting Australian Tax Commissioner, Michael d'Ascenzo, claimed that improving service was a priority at the ATO.
