IATA's new cargo formula to cost Australian exporters.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Some Australian exporters stand to suffer from a proposed new way of calculating the chargeable weight of low-density airfreight cargo. Currently, 6,000 cubic centimetres of cargo is calculated as one kilogram of cargo. Under an International Air Transport Association plan, 5,000 cubic centimetres would be calculated as a kilogram of freight. This will result in up to 20 per cent higher airfreight charges for some low density producers, such as cut flower exporters. Cut flowers exporter, Brian Freeman, of IHM Australia, says the proposed changes could devastate his industry.
