Boffins plumb drivers' brain capacity.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Researchers in the automobile industry are studying how drivers get distracted, in an attempt to understand the physiology of the process. Wayne State University and General Motors are jointly undertaking the research, which uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine how drivers respond to visual and sound cues. A major outcome will be the development of technological applications to help avoid accidents. Real time experiments will involve subjects in driving simulations while exposed to a variety of distractions, among them talking, eating, and using mobile telephones.
