Island's only ferry link is one of the world's most expensive: traders' plea to cut fees on "toll road".

ABIX via COMTEX) -- Residents and business operators on South Australia's Kangaroo Island want the cost of ferry services to be cut. Most would like to see a competitor for the monopoly SeaLink service. However, SeaLink's exclusive rights to the port of Cape Jervis make it difficult for a competitor to get a foothold. SeaLink chief executive officer Jeff Ellison said that if port fees were lowered, the company would pass on the savings to customers. The state Government charges $A523,000 a year in port fees, and the Kangaroo Island Council charges $A150,000 a year.
