ASIC criminal probe confirmed.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) is said to be undertaking a criminal investigation into several stockbroking firms. The firms in question have allegedly engaged in irregular trading in the shares of KAZ Group and Powerlan. On 20 August 2002, ASIC and the Australian Federal Police raided the offices of KTM Capital and Powerlan. KTM underwrote the sharemarket floats of both KAZ and Powerlan. On 21 August, KAZ informed the sharemarket that ASIC investigated trading in its shares in April 2002, but stressed that KAZ itself had not been under investigation.
