Amcor begins glass wine bottle production.
Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2002
Aug 21, 2002 (Packaging
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Amcor's new greenfield glass plant is up and running, producing glass wine bottles for wineries in the Barossa Valley. It is already delivering bottles to 15 companies, including all of the major wine groups. The $A140 million facility in Gawler was completed five months ahead of schedule. Amcor's managing director, Russell Jones, said product quality had been excellent, even in the early stages. Analysts are yet to be convinced that Amcor Glass can remain viable in the face of strong competition from ACI Glass. ACI is the world's largest glass container manufacturer and has been the sole Australian supplier for several years.
