Papers pull in extra readers.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- New research shows that most Australian newspapers have enjoyed strong readership growth in the year to 30 June 2002. According to Roy Morgan Research, John Fairfax Holdings' "The Sydney Morning Herald" remained the industry's star performer in terms of growth. Sales of the newspaper's weekday editions rose by 9.8 during the year. Around 900,000 people read the daily editions. Its major competitor, News Limited's "Daily Telegraph" was up by five per cent and reached 1.2 million readers during the week. The national papers, "The Australian Financial Review" and "The Australian", were slightly down on last year.
