Watchdog eyes off revised pay-TV alliance plan.

Australian pay television giants Foxtel and Singtel Optus will release a revised plan for their proposed alliance in early September 2002. Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) chairman, Allan Fels, says he expects to rule on the proposed alliance a few weeks thereafter. The $A1.3bn proposal would see the two companies share both content and infrastructure. An initial proposal was blocked by the ACCC. Telcos, Powertel, AAPT , Hutchison Telecommunications, Primus Telecommunications and Macquarie Telecommunications, voiced concern that the initial proposal would allow Foxtel part-owner Telstra to extend its dominance in the telco market.
