China aims for giant step forward in its air safety.

ABIX via COMTEX) -- China is reportedly toughening its safety standards following the crash of two Chinese aircraft in April and May 2002. The accidents involved Air China and China Northern Airlines aircraft. According to the "China Daily", China's Civil Aviation Authority has ordered airports to improve control of take-offs and landings and to restrict pilot flying hours in an effort to reduce fatigue. Meanwhile, pilots are being audited and poorly performing ones sacked.
