ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has made a submission to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). AFTA objected to the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) exclusive control of the agency program. The federation advocates giving more freedom for agents in their arrangements with airlines. The ACCC is currently reviewing IATA's exemptions from the Trade Practices Act. Mike Hatton, the CEO of AFTA, said during the AFTA conference in Brisbane on 27 July 2002 that more competition was needed in the travel industry.
