Chiefs test appeal in the Big Apple.

Many of Australia's business leaders are in New York, seeking investment capital. They will give their presentations at a Merrill Lynch-hosted conference, which features 23 Australian companies. Australian Treasurer Peter Costello will also be in New York for talks with US investment houses. Meanwhile, the US National Bureau of Economic Research has refused to declare the US recession over. On the positive side, a fund manager poll found 48 per cent predicting a growth surge.
