ASX gets pass, can do better.

The Australian Stock Exchange's (ASX) Supervisory Review was established in 2001. Its aim was to resolve any possible conflicts of interest by the ASX. In its first full-year report, released on 30 September 2002, the ASX Review said that, for the year to June 2002, the ASX had conducted its supervisory activities "ethically and responsibly". During the year, the ASX spent $A36m on supervisory activities. Despite this, the ASX Review said a number of areas needed improvement. It said there was an "element of unevenness" across the ASX's departments regarding supervisory policies, as well as an "unevenness" in the documenting of compliance programs.
