Woolies could seek Coles Myer assets.
Australasian Business Intelligence, September, 2002
Sep 01, 2002 (Herald Sun - ABIX via COMTEX)
Woolworths would be interested in acquiring Coles Myer assets if the latter were to be broken up. Woolworths chief executive officer Roger Corbett said on 1 September 2002 that the Australian supermarket group could used more space, particularly in the discount general merchandise part of its business. If assets from rival retailer Coles Myer became available, Woolworths would be interested, Corbett said on the Nine Network's "Business Sunday" TV program. Speculation has increased that Coles Myer is planning a break-up.
